If you keep in touch with our Facebook page, you will know that a few weeks my son Teddy turned two! Yikes, where did that two years go?! Anyway, as you would probably expect from someone who makes cakes for a living, the thought of creating a fun and healthy-ish treat table is a truly exciting prospect and one I personally revel in.
As with most boys, Teddy loves nothing more than cars, tractors, bikes and basically anything with wheels or wings. Most children also tend to have a favourite cuddly toy, pillow or blanket that must be taken with them at ALL times. This lead me to the idea of having a Wibbly Digger Party for him. Wibbly being his favourite cuddly and diggers being his current favourite mode of transport, despite never actually riding on one…
I wracked my brains for weeks trying to come up with a novel way to decorate the food table for his party. When standing over the kitchen sink one day, washing the smeared on food off his toy digger the “tah dah” moment us mums are usually waiting for (but we don’t tend to have until 2pm in the morning) hit me “I shall wash his toys and use them as food containers” not only did this save lots of money, he and his friends loved seeing the trucks and diggers stuffed with delicious and mostly healthy food, they actually wanted to eat it. I made orange juice and rice milk jellies (perfect for the dairy free tots who were coming) in the shape of traffic cones, Malteasers were used as large boulders and I stacked mini cheeses on his fork lift pallets ready to be taken away and eaten.
It really was a great success and one that can be duplicated for all sorts of party themes.
Please feel free to nab some of the ideas for yourselves and if you would like any of the recipes then ping me an email and I will be more than happy to share them with you.
Have a great day and enjoy your party!
